Systems Integration
Project Manager |
Project
Managed large-scale (2,000 user+) client server systems integration projects
from initial purchase request through implementation and customer training.
Managed and coordinated tasks for a group of 3 Systems Engineers,
Technical Writer, Technical Buyer, and third party contractors (cabling,
transportation, consultants, and installers) through the different milestones of
building and delivering fully turn key and redundant data centers to customers.
Systems consisted of several WinNT + Citrix MetaFrame servers with
clustering and RAID level five redundancy.
These servers communicated via public and private Frame Relay networks to
all customer branches (in some cases up to 400+) and are served up applications
to thin clients located at each branch.
Fully accountable to complete project on time and budget.
Utilized MS Project 98 for tracking and provided client with detailed
GANNT and PERT charts.
Also arranged nationwide procurement of Frame Relay, Internet, and ISDN
services from AT&T and LEC's.

Technical Support Engineer |
Held
several positions within the company, most recently as Systems Engineer and
Territory Manager in charge of all regional technical and commercial operations
for Network General in the Latin America & Caribbean region. For FY97
generated US$ 2 Million in sales for the region, and was well in track to
surpass sales of US$ 1.5 Million during Q1 FY98.
My commercial responsibilities included: budgeting, inventory allocation,
price list design, press releases & conferences, import/export licensing and
customs clearances, localized competitor analysis, international export law,
search, qualification, and hiring of distributors / channel / VAR's and Reps,
sales and technical training, quota assignment and tracking, forecasting, coop
programs, trade show selection - setup - and participation, and advertising
design. As a Systems Engineering I did over 200 pre sales seminars at trade
shows and distributor events at trade shows and company events where I held
technical discussions and product demonstrations.
I developed all of the presentation and training materials in Power Point
directly in Spanish geared towards the particular needs of the region.
Directly assisted the sales process by going on-site with VAR's and
distributors to present our product line to local Fortune 500 companies and
multinational corporations. At the same time I participated in post sales
support and network design / troubleshooting projects in several countries.
Started at the corporate offices as backline technical support engineer where I
was the liaison between the Technical Assistance Center and the Engineering/QA
groups participating in product design & bug review meetings, this during my
first year at NGC.

Senior
Technical Support Engineer |
Assisted
customers and field engineers in pre & post sales technical support issues
for more than 150 enterprise wide hardware and software networking products
including: bridges, routers, NIC's, terminal servers, headends, Ethernet, FDDI,
Token Ring, Token Bus, and ATM hubs, EEPROM programming, multi protocol drivers
and stacks, SNMP Network Management Systems, and Broadband RF Headends. Other
activities included support of the beta code releases to test customers,
reviewed all technical documentation before product release, and developed some
of the test procedures to be used as part of the final QA test process.
Performed remote network troubleshooting projects using the Sniffer protocol
analyzer to find and correct problems in customers networks. Achieved the
highest level of problems solved by any technician by closing more than 1,000
cases per month consistently. Also assisted Systems Engineers in developing
technical specifications and designs for large scale network integration
projects for which the company was bidding. Finally, I did some programming for
a customer driven technical support problem log and reporting system via dial up
line to the company's BBS.

corporate users. The range of tasks I had to do went from initial PC hardware
and software setup to training and inventory control of all computer assets.
Other duties included software application and interface standardization,
purchasing, and computer/peripheral usage policy setting. Supported corporate
(Redwood City office) and Bay Area project field sites (Chevron Oil Field in
Richmond), which included high end AutoCAD workstations, project management
systems with MS Project and Primavera software, engineering database design in
dBase, accounting, desktop publishing, PC to mainframe 327x terminal emulation,
MAC to PC connectivity, and setup of the initial Novell v2.0a prototype network.

Computer
Projects Specialist |
Worked
in implementing the prototype for a food distribution control system to be used
in all Latin America UN-WFP sites. The System consisted of multiple Apple
computers with CP/M running a dBase program that would automatically calculate
and divide the available inventory of food supplies into the different locations
by priority of population and distance to main cities. The system consisted of
desktop and portable computers connected via dial up WAN modem links to capture
information remotely, then have it processed centrally at headquarters, finally
it would produce printed instructions on loads for the truck drivers to carry to
each town. Also evaluated and implemented word processing and spreadsheet
software to be used as standards in the different offices and developed various
spreadsheet macros to automate the different reports needed to keep track of all
food donations. Equipment used consisted of portable Apple IIc / Apple IIe
computers and Tandy Radio Shack TRS-IV micros, all running with the CP/M
operating system.

I was
the manager in charge of a 3-person systems analysis and programming team whose
task was that of developing custom software systems for local and international
corporations. These systems consisted of accounting (payables, receivables,
ledger, inventory), sports (international bicycle race tracking and statistics),
scientific (oil tank volume measurement and tracking), sales (agent sales
tracking, reporting and commission calculation), and statistics (National
Institute of Statistics of Guatemala). All were developed in IBM System 34 and
System 36 mini-computers and PC's using COBOL, MS Basic, and dBase/Clipper
languages. Some of the customers included:
Philips Electronics, Pepsi Co., Suzuki, National Statistics Institute of
Guatemala, Olympic Federation, Jacqueline Carol cosmetics, Texaco, CARE, and
